Richard and Ruth Blohm Create Endowed Scholarship to Support North Park’s Future Success
From childhood on, North Park has had a profound influence on the lives of Mr. Richard J. Blohm ’65 and Mrs. Ruth E. Blohm ’65. Now, by creating The Richard J. and Ruth E. Blohm Scholarship Endowment Fund, they are ensuring continued excellence at their alma mater.
Because Richard and Ruth grew up near North Park, they were familiar with all that it offered—making their decisions to attend NPU seem almost obvious. What was less obvious was the influence their North Park experience would have on the rest of their lives.
“Participating in athletics was important,” Richard says as an example of NPU’s positive lifelong impact, “but the most meaningful thing was the relationships I established. Many of those friendships continue to this day.”
From sports to acting, cheerleading, and much more, Richard and Ruth were active NPU students. Now, with their endowment fund, they are showing their gratitude while offering similar opportunities to tomorrow’s students. Their scholarship will reduce student financial burdens and create future opportunities for educators and health professionals.
“It is a tangible and easy way to make a meaningful difference in a young person’s life,” Ruth says. “We felt led to support students in their fields of interest and hoped to see the impact come to fruition.”
Richard and Ruth hope their gift inspires fellow alumni to take similar action. “We hope it creates a ripple effect,” Richard says. “We hope others will remember the value of their own North Park experience and invest in future generations.”
